The people of Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have breathe a sigh of relief following the grading of over 6.8 Kilometres of roads by a community leader who singlehandedly intervened in an Erosion ravaged adjoining streets in an effort to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the community.

Otuekong Emem Dennis, a title Chief in Uyo LGA and Youth leader, took it upon himself to ease the plight of residents and commuters in the area following the obvious damage caused by erosion as a result of the heavy and lengthy rain falls witnessed in the year 2019. The intervention has brought succour to the people who were already fleeing the area for lack of access road and fear of building collapse due to erosion.

The area which has little or no government presence especially in road construction, witnessed a facelift during the Yuletide period, when Otuekong Dennis moved in Graders numbering over five, and other heavy equipment to save the community from being overtaken by erosion.

Speaking during the road grading, Otuekong Dennis said he was moved by compassion to alleviate the suffering of his people. He noted that although his house is not affected, he was determined to return smile to the faces of his people, especially, those residing and doing business in the area.

The respected community leader said that Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration has been doing so well for the community especially in the area of security and power. He observed that the Governor recently gave the community five transformers which has helped to improve power supply in the community.

“I choose to do what am doing in the area today because the people of this community have been experiencing difficulties driving and doing business in this area. This area was completely cut off from the rest of the state because of erosion.

“I believe that government cannot do everything alone. Government needs cooperation from different communities to bring development to the people. We in Ekpri Nsukara community, we make sure that every year we grade different adjoining streets to ease movement and bring development to the area.

“His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel has been supportive especially in the area of security and electricity. The governor recently gave the community five transformers to help improve power in the area. We are very delighted with government’s efforts, and we are hopeful that this administration will come to our rescue in the providing good roads for us in this community.

“So far, we have been doing this as our support to the people. Hopefully by God’s grace, we will continue to make the people have a sense of good leadership until such a time when government will come with a permanent solution for us in Ekpri Nsukara.

Some of the residents who could not hold their excitement said, they were delighted at the intervention of the dilapidated roads in the area by the Youth Leader. They called on the government to join hands with Otuekong Dennis to put an end to the suffering they are going through as a result of the poor state of roads in the area.

On his part, Chief Kufre Emmanuel thanked Otuekong Emem Dennis for the timely intervention in the area and pleaded with the government of the state to save the area from complete collapse. “There was no road for us to pass some few weeks back. The roads were all impassable. People where packing away from the community because of the poor state of roads. Cars and tricycle couldn’t drive through any part of the area. If you see how the situation was last week, how the road was, you will understand what am talking about. But we thank God for giving this community a leader in the person of Otuekong Emem Dennis.
